Handmade fabric yo yos

Hello, blogger friends! Sorry I haven't been posting. I'm still busy with grandkids and sewing. In September, I started volunteering with a local museum. They are doing "Wild Catters" weekends once a month and I've been doing crafts. This weekend is our Chrismtas one and I'm making yo yos. The kids will make their own; however, I have some yo yos already made; they will only have to glue on button and the hanger. I'm also going to be selling them. I'll be listing them soon in my selling blog. I can make them in any color and theme.

Hello on 11/11/11

How is everyone doing? I've been busy, busy with grandkids and with sewing. I did finish the 3rd raggy quilt for my 3rd DGD. We had a nice birthday party at our house; she also had a party with her mom's family.
I've also been working on organizer totes. There are either 8 or 9 pockets, inside & outside; fabrics are 100% cotton. I can make them in your choice of colors and themes. E-mail me for details.

This last week, i made three more raggy totes. they have either 8 or 9 pockets inside and outside. The one with the sewing theme is a sample of a bag that will eventually be for Avon samples. I can make any bag in whatever your fave fabric is. The pink & multi color ones are 13" by 8.5" by 4.5"; the quilting theme one is 14" by 12" by 4.5".

I'll post soon about the three quilts I'm making for my DGDs. but I took a break and made two organizer totes. There are 4 pockets on the outside and at least 6 pockets on the inside. I'm going to post them in the Raggy Anne blog as special orders.

Finished another UFO!

I've been busy sewing. I did a swap a few years ago with 12.5" blocks using Calico fabrics. I found the blocks and decided to put together. Nine of the blocks were from the swap; the rest were blocks I made. I added a couple of borders; the top measures 59" by 72". In a day or two, I'll be listing it somewhere.....

Finished a UFO!

Has everyone been having as busy a summer as I have? I've had a revolving "grandmother" door, lol. I love them, but it's nice when I can have some quiet time too. Since the girls are older, I have been able to sew even when they are around. This week I found ten blue rail fence blocks I believe I won in a block lotto. I made six more and added some borders. It's for sale now as a quilt top. Isn't it pretty?

Good Morning! Isn't the month of June flying by? We've had a lot of family activities going on. Our oldest DGS graduated from high school; DH & I attended his graduation and Open House. Four of the DGKs who live in area have been spending a lot of time here. We have video games and TV on in most rooms of the house. It's noisy, but it's so nice to have them here.
I'm still working on my detash of vintage fabris. I had slowed down as I'm also selling newer fabrics, but it's time to get back to this.
Here are two photos of some lots I put together. I have some fabrics liated in my salling blog, bur you can always conract me. I am also putting together mystery boxes for eBay listings.

Square sets, fat quarter bundles, etc.

Hello! Here in southeast Texas, it's summer already. Where did spring go? My friend said next week will reach 101; the hottest for that day since 1911. Of course, it doesn't bother me too much as I stay inside mostly. And I travel in my air conditioned car, lol.
I've been busy cutting out squares and fat quarters to sell. I've listed some on eBay and have sold some in a quilting group I'm in. The most popular size seems to be 2" squares and 5" squares. If you are interested in any size or theme, just let me know. Here is a photos of some I've cut out. Oh, they are rotary cut by me in my smoke free and pet free home.

Delicious Cake Recipe

Good Morning! How is everyone doing today? I'm still sewing on the surgical caps; just love all the different fabrics I'm pulling from my stash. Hope all the nurses do, too.
Do you like to bake? I don't bake as much as I used to, but this is a favorite of my family. I got the recipe from my MIL. Enjoy!

LYNN'S CAKE
3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups oil
1 (8oz) can crushed pineapple, drained

1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix dry ingredients; set aside. Mix eggs, pineapple, nuts, bananas and oil; add vanilla. Make hole in center of flour; put in cream mixture. Stir lightly; do not beat. Bake in tube or Bundt pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cover with powdered sugar glaze..

My Mug Rug Swap

Yesterday was a "grandma" day; I had four of my grandkids at my house off and on. My 3rd DGS is spending the weekend here. Then my DD's youngest two stayed while she had errands to do. The boys were pretty good; the 2 year old just took a little attention. I did manage to work on my surgical caps, even with them here. It helped that DD cooked our dinner, lol. Oh, the older one did come for dinner.
As some of you know, I'm in eBay groups. I love the friendships I have made there. Also love the swaps we do. The latest in one of the groups is a mug rug. I'm posting a photo of mine. One side is a solid piece of handpainted fabric; the other is strips. Didn't Nancy do a great job? She is selling her handdyed/handpainted fabrics on her blog: hugginshaven, http://hugginshaven.blogspot.com/

My Newest Project!

It's a pretty day today and will be a pretty weekend. That's good as we had lots of rain yesterday. Hope the rest of the country is being safe from the storms and floods lately.
This last month or so, I had been working on market bags, lunch bags, and totebags. Then I received a request to make surgical caps. I had never done any, but I was game! I came up with 2 different styles; several different sizes. (I don't believe one size fits all is for everyone!) My buyer came by yesterday and bought the nine I had ready with her fabrics. She took eight others (made with my fabrics) to her hospital today; I'm hoping for a sell-out, lol. I will be listing them online; if anyone is interested, just e-mail me. I can customize them for you!

New Market Bags

Good Morning! DD, Janice, is having another Open House. This time there will be 4 vendors set up at the Avon Office in Port Neches. Staci will be selling Scensy; Amanada sells Avon; Janice has Tupperware; and my raggy/traditional items will be set up. Because I'm babysitting for Janice, I won't be there. My sweet DIL, Laurie, will be there for me.
This week I've been busy dreaming up market bags to sell. The good thing is if they don't sell, I get to use them! This is only three of them; they measure about 14" x 14" x 8".Oh, I've also used vintage fabrics.

My New Beach Bags

My DH helped out at a Friends of the Library book sale today. I stayed home and sewed. I did finish two beach bags I started last week. Had put them aside to work on the Sailor's Prayer quilt top and to prepare for Easter. These are a little bigger than my 1st two; about 20" by 21" by 5 1/2". They have the cutest Hula cotton fabrics and are lined and have pockets inside. I listed them on eBay today.

Sailor's Prayer

So, how has the weather been in your town? We were expeciting rain, but only got wind. We had a great Easter; family time is always wonderful.
I made a lighthouse raggy quilt for my nephew & his wife sometime ago. I saw the fabrics left over, so decided to do another one. Well, one of the fabrics had the prettiest print, so I changed the theme to Sailor's Prayer. It does have lighthouses, but also has ships, etc. The size is 49" by 56"; a border could be added to make it larger. I'm going to list it on eBay Wednesday, but if you are interested, just contact me.

Lazy Day in Southeast Texas

I haven't done very much the last two days; guess all the sewing I've done has caught up with me. I did manage to list some items in both eBay and etsy. I still have the baby burp cloths to list. I made 18 the other day; wow! They are about 18" x 5" and have three layers of flannel. Please contact me if you're interested.

My Pillowcase Dresses

Our weather has been so pretty lately. Hope yours has been too! I've been sewing away. For years I wanted to try a pillowcase dress, so finally did. I made the 1st four out of dotted swiss fabric from my mother's stash. They are truely one of a kind! I also found the cutest pink & brown print and a sweet rose print. My DD loves it and wants one for Meagan, who is 2 1/2. I make them in sizes 3 mos. to 5. I'm listing them in my selling blog, if anyone is interested.

Here is a photo of my pretty models, my youngest two DGDs.

My new beach bags

After making so many raggy totes, I decided it was time to make traditional totebags again. I created my version of a beach bag. They're around 18" x 19" x 5" and fully lined with pockets inside. I used vintage heavier fabrics from my mother's stash (these are from the 70s, I think.) and are washable. These are my 1st two and I washed them after making them. If you are interested, just contact me. They will go in a show this Saturday, so might be gone. I also added beach bags to our Raggy Anne blog.

My Postage Stamp Quilt Progress

I've been slowly working on my 2" squares for my postage stamp quilt. So far, I have 12 blocks completed; they're 10.5" each. I'm still thinking on my layout, but think I will alternate these blocks with 10.5" muslin squares. Is anyone else working on a 2" postage stamp quilt? If so, I would love to hear from you. I have swapped with several people, but would love to swap with more.

Totebags and more totebags!

I finished three more raggy totebags. They were for a special order. As you can see, they are all a little different, as all my totebags are OOAK.

Today I decided to make a couple of traditional totebags. It's been months since I've done a simple totebag; glad I could remember how to sew them, lol. The kid print is a vintage fabric from my mother's stash and the black & white 100% cotton fabric is a piece from my own stash. I added larger pockets inside and have a longer handle. I would be glad to make a tote for you in your choice of colors.

Sewing away in Texas!

As I was working on a round for a Round Robin, I also worked on my 2" squares. They are addictive!

Have you heard of a Round Robin? It's a quilt that is made by a group of quilters and it's a variation of doing friendship blocks. To start, everyone makes a block for the center. The blocks are passed to someone else in the group. They add the first round. Then the next quilter adds the second. This continues until all the rounds are added. The quilter who made the center block then gets the quilt top back to keep and finish. These round robins are challenging. Well, two members dropped out of a round robin, so I volunteered to do a round for my friend. I made the round simple so it could "frame" the lovely birdhouse and vines. It will be on the way to the next person tomorrow.

Colleen's Gieveaway

My friend, Colleen, is having a giveaway in her blog -- really neat room spray and tarts. I placed in my sidebar, but need to remember how to make it clickable. Sorry about that!

Sorry, I can't post any more progress on my 2" squares. I've been working in my messy sewing room. There is no way I can post a photo now, but will do so when it's completed. It's like Christmas; I'm finding so many neat stuff, lol.

Heitage Festival Time!

It's over for the year! The Nederland Heritage Festival began in 1973 as Nederland celebrated its 75th birthday. A committee was formed to organize events for Nederland’s Diamond Jubilee. The event was such a success that organizers decided that it should become an annual event and the Nederland Heritage Festival was born. This is truly a fun time for all; old and young. The concessions (food vendors) are set up by Tuesday at 4 pm and close on Sunday about 5 pm. The carnival rides start around 5 pm every day, except all day on Saturday & Sunday. There are craft booths set up for the weekend. Activities include a Chili Cook off, Old Car Show, a Pageant, Music Show, Art Show, etc. My DH is active in his KC group and heads up the etofee cooking.

This year, I stayed home and babysat mostly. So, I had time to work on my Postage Stamp squares. I have cut out about 600 squares so far. Have traded half of these; still waiting on some of my trades to come home. I have 215 squaes sewed together; four completed blocks and rows ready to complete. My blocks are 10" square; 36 squares each. I have a long way to go!

Progress on Postage Stamp squares

Like I said, I'm showing the prgress on my Postage Stamp Quilt. So far, I have 86 squares in some form of sewing and an extra 11 squares ready to add. I cut out 400 extra squares to swap. Thanks, quilting friends, for swapping 50 2" squares with me! I could cut out more squares from my stash, but I think I'll wait until all thee squishies come in the mail. Won't this be like Christmas? I'm going to try not to have duplicates, but 1 or 2 might slip by; hope the quilt police won't check on me, lol. How is your progress doing? It might be a few days before I'm able to sew any more; gotta wait for the mail.....

My Postage Stamp Quilt progress

The rain finally stopped today; now it's getting cold. This is typical Texas weather. If you don't like the weather, wait around and it will change.
I decided to do something totally different. For years, I've been fascinated by the Postage Stamp quilt. So, I've started cutting out squares for one. My square size will be 2", even though I know most of the quilts are 1" to 1 1/2". I have about 75 cut out for me and 200 cut out to trade (50 squares times 4). The photo shows the squares I cut for myself so far. When I start my sewing, I will post again.
Have you ever wanted to try one? If so, join me.

My beautiful new quilt

Some of you may know I recently had surgery for breast cancer; some of you may not know. It was an experience I would not want to go thru again; nor have any of my friends go thru it. It has helped having caring, supportive friends though. I know I posted before about a wonderful eBay group I'm in. Well, the same group made me a Breast Awareness Quilt which I received today and I'm still in tears. The note said it was to wrap myself in hugs from the group. Thank you, Quilter's Corner Group! You are the best!
(Sorry the photos are poor; I will take more photos in the daylight tomorrow.)
